AWS Platform Engineer

I have an exciting opportunity to join a growing Government Defence business unit as a DV Security Cleared AWS Platform Engineer at one of their offices in London, Manchester or Leeds. As a key member of a Cloud Platform Team, you'll be working with our National Security Customers to build infrastructure platforms on AWS that Product Engineering teams use to build core mission applications. You'll work as part of empowered, autonomous teams with regular contact with Engineering teams and end-users to flexibly and efficiently understand, design, develop, deploy and maintain infrastructure platforms on AWS. You'll be encouraged to identify new ways of solving problems and get to work in a range of different teams across our customer organisations. You will work in a small team given as much ownership and responsibility as you have the appetite for but part of a much bigger Engineering community to give you the support you need to grow in your career. You To succeed within the role of an AWS Platform Engineer, you'll have experience in a similar position, and many of the following skills: Plenty of experience in AWS and experience in solving complex business issues; regarded as an AWS subject matter expert Demonstrable expertise designing and building with AWS services such as EC2, ECS, EKS, S3, Lambda, RDS, KMS, ELB, SNS, SQS, IAM Scripting abilities with languages such as Shell, Bash, or Python A working knowledge of Linux, networking, routing & firewalls etc Strong understand of operational concepts on AWS, particularly monitoring and observability, FinOps Proficient in Infrastructure as Code technologies (eg CloudFormation, CDK, Terraform) Source controlling your code with Version Control Systems, for example Git, Mercurial, Perforce Great communication and problem solving skills, and a desire to learn new technologies Working in an Agile environment (e.g. Scrum, Kanban, SAFe, XP, etc) Due to security nature and urgency for this role, we can only consider those with live and transferrable UK*C Enhanced DV security clearance used within the last 12 months. Lead P6 Planner Barrow in Furness Based (3 days per week on site) £62.02 an hour Umbrella Inside IR35 12 Month Contract initially. This is a great opportunity to work within one of the UK's leading Defence organisations based In Barrow in Furness. Hybrid 3 days in the office per week. Core Duties Able to perform advanced project reporting & scheduling. Able to undertake advanced problem solving typically based on previous experience. Have a comprehensive knowledge of Business process and procedures. Administration and general office skills including spreadsheets/ Microsoft packages. Attend on the job training as appropriate. Able to lead the PM&C processes on a small project or a work package of a larger project. Able to manage the PM&C processes on a full project lifecycle to ensure that, over time, the needs of customers/users continue to be met and that financial and other benefits are achieved. Identify, assesses and manages risks to the success of the project. Applies appropriate PM&C methods and tools whether predictive (plan-driven) approaches or adaptive (iterative/agile) approaches. Agrees PM&C approach with stakeholders, and prepares realistic plans (including quality, risk and communications plans) and tracks activities against the project schedule, managing stakeholder involvement as appropriate. Consolidate expertise from multiple sources, including third party experts, to provide coherent advice to further organisational objectives. Supports and promotes the development and sharing of specialist knowledge within the organisation. This is a role for an experienced project professional with a small team and the ability to deliver with limited guidance from the Line Manager. If so, the following role may be right for you… We are looking for a DV Cleared AWS Cloud Database Administrator to join the existing team in London or Birmingham or Glasgow on an initial 12 month contract, mostly working from home with meetings onsite 2 days per quarter. The Cloud DBA will be responsible for the maintenance and optimization of our PostgreSQL databases hosted on the AWS Cloud platform. The successful candidate will collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure database reliability, availability, and performance, while also contributing to the overall architecture and strategy of our cloud-based database solution. As an AWS Cloud DBA, your responsibilities include, but not limited to: 1. Database Design and Architecture: * Collaborate with software engineers, DevOps, and infrastructure teams to design and implement optimal database solution for various applications. * Participate in database schema design, indexing strategies, and query optimization to ensure efficient data storage and retrieval. 2. Database Deployment and Management: * Deploy and configure PostgreSQL database instances on AWS RDS, considering factors such as instance sizing, storage, and security. * Implement and manage replication, clustering, and backup/recovery strategies to ensure high availability and disaster recovery. 3. Performance Monitoring and Optimization: * Monitor database performance, proactively identifying and resolving performance bottlenecks, slow queries, and other issues affecting system responsiveness. * Tune database parameters, indexes, and queries for optimal performance. 4. Security and Compliance: * Implement and enforce security best practices for PostgreSQL databases, including user access controls, encryption, and data masking as needed. * Ensure compliance with industry standards and regulations related to data security and privacy. 5. Backup and Recovery: * Develop and maintain backup and recovery strategies, including regular backups, automated recovery testing, and data retention policies. 6. Troubleshooting and Issue Resolution: * Investigate and resolve database-related incidents, working closely with development and operations teams to diagnose and rectify issues. 7. Automation and Scripting: * Develop automation scripts and tools for routine database tasks, deployments, monitoring, and scaling. 8. Documentation: * Maintain comprehensive documentation for database configurations, processes, and procedures. 9. Collaboration and Training: * Collaborate with cross-functional teams to provide database expertise and guidance. * Provide training and guidance to junior members of the team as needed. You To succeed within the role of an AWS Cloud DBA, you'll have experience in a similar position and you'll have the following skills and experience: * Proven experience as a Cloud Database Administrator, with a focus on PostgreSQL. * Strong experience with AWS cloud services, particularly RDS. * In-depth knowledge of PostgreSQL database internals, architecture, and best practices. * Proficiency in SQL, PL/pgSQL, and query optimization. * Experience with database performance tuning and monitoring tools. * Familiarity with database security practices and compliance standards. * Scripting and automation skills using languages like Python, Bash, JavaScript or similar. * Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment. * Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
