Contract Opportunity - Senior Software Engineer
Barrow-in-Furness (Hybrid - 2 to 3 days onsite per week)
6-month initial contract (with potential to extend)
£47.86/hour (Umbrella) or £35.55/hour (PAYE)
BPSS to start with SC in progress
Due to security nature of this role, candidates must have lived in the UK in the last 5 years and is eligible to obtain security clearance
A leading defence engineering organisation is seeking a Senior Software Engineer to support high-impact programmes that play a critical role in maintaining the UK's frontline capabilities.
As a Senior Software Engineer, you'll join a multi-disciplinary team focused on designing and delivering embedded software solutions across complex systems. You'll be part of a dynamic, innovative environment where each day brings a new technical challenge.
Key Responsibilities:
- Design and develop embedded software to meet defined requirements
- Implement code using Embedded C and modern programming languages (e.g., C#)
- Conduct software testing, verification, and validation activities
- Work collaboratively with electrical and systems engineers
- Follow the engineering lifecycle (V-model) and adhere to software development standards
- Provide regular updates to engineering management
Required Skills & Experience:
- Strong experience in Embedded C programming
- Knowledge of embedded systems concepts and protocols (CAN, SPI, RS-422)
- Solid understanding of the software development lifecycle
- Familiarity with PLM and ERP tools (TeamCenter, SAP)
- Proficient in Microsoft Office suite
Desirable:
- Experience with RTOS or Bare Metal systems
- Exposure to middleware and SOA architectures
- Knowledge of safety standards (DEF STAN 00-056, IEC 61508)
- Understanding of electronic circuits
- Experience with Matlab/Simulink
Qualifications:
- Degree (or equivalent) in Software Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field
- 3+ years of post-graduate engineering experience (or equivalent combination of experience and qualifications)
