I'm looking for a Senior Mechanical Engineer to join a leading global manufacturer of specialty chemical additives and precursors, serving a wide range of industries including plastics, coatings, adhesives, sealants and pharmaceuticals. At their Eccles site in Manchester, they are proud of their rich industrial heritage and dedicated team of professionals who drive operational excellence and continuous improvement across all aspects of the plant.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide mechanical engineering support to the site, ensuring safe and reliable operation of plant equipment.
- Lead or support mechanical maintenance activities, including preventive and corrective work.
- Manage mechanical projects, including design, procurement, installation, and commissioning of new equipment.
- Participate in Hazard and Operability Studies (HAZOPs) to identify and mitigate potential risks.
- Investigate and resolve mechanical failures, conducting root cause analyses and recommending solutions.
- Ensure compliance with all relevant safety, environmental, and regulatory standards.
- Support continuous improvement initiatives focused on equipment reliability, availability, and cost efficiency.
- Liaise with contractors, suppliers, and internal stakeholders to deliver maintenance and project work safely and effectively.
About You:
- Degree qualified in Mechanical Engineering or a related discipline (HNC/HND with relevant experience may be considered).
- Proven engineering and maintenance experience in a chemical, pharmaceutical or petrochemical plant, particularly on a COMAH site.
- Strong knowledge of mechanical systems, rotating equipment, pressure systems, and piping.
- Management of PSSR, PUWER, LOLER, and PED inspection and installation programs.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Strong problem-solving and communication skills.
- Commitment to safety and continuous improvement.
Desirable:
- Chartered or working towards Chartered Engineer status (IMechE or similar).
The salary is £60,000 plus benefits and the role based on-site 5x days per week.
