Product Development Engineer

Glascoed Based

£37.57 an hour Umbrella Inside IR35

12 Month Contract initially.

This is a great opportunity to work within one of the UK's leading Defence organisations based In Glascoed.

Responsibilities

  • Assisting product development and systems engineering activities for new products
  • Coordination of product development and related engineering activities
  • Configuration and maintenance of Engineering bills of materials for products
  • Product development and evaluation e.g. Pugh Matrices, Fault Tree Analysis, Design Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (DFMEA)
  • Manufacture, test and evaluation of munitions products
  • Conducting and managing trials in a safe and suitable manner - from the trials planning stage to completion of the trial and presentation of the data
  • Development and use safe systems of work
  • Development of quality systems
  • Management of stakeholders, both internal and external, to ensure that development activities are completed to time and schedule
  • Contribution to the Life Cycle Management Process where required
  • Contribution to the Risk Management process
  • Liaise with customers as demanded
  • Working as part of an integrated project team, with regular engagement across other functions; including project management, procurement (supply chain) and commercial

Competencies, Skills and Qualifications

Essential

  • Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering (or similar Engineering discipline)
  • Available for immediate start
  • Applicants must be able to demonstrate a proven capability in development projects, in particular system integration
  • Proven ability to take ownership, prioritise and deliver product Engineering tasks within development projects to ensure completion within agreed timescales and to required standard
  • Ability to produce high quality technical reports
  • A good working knowledge of Microsoft Office suite and strong IT skills
  • A good understanding of project/risk management and the ability to use associated tools and techniques
  • Ability to read and understand engineering drawings and models

Desirable

  • Master's Degree in Mechanical, Electrical or Electronic Engineering with proof of experience in developing complex electro-mechanical systems
  • Product development experience in the Engineering industry
  • Chartered Engineer or Membership with appropriate Engineering Institution
  • Knowledge and experience of munition design and manufacture
  • Experience of product test and evaluation activities
  • Familiarity with the Life Cycle Management (LCM) process
  • A working knowledge of Systems Engineering and Engineering design
  • Working knowledge of Risk Management
  • Awareness of relevant manufacturing technologies and processes
  • Current valid UK Security Clearance to SC level or higher
