We're seeking an experienced Principal Human Factors Engineer with proven nuclear sector experience to support a critical submarine safety programme. This role is ideal for senior HF professionals who have worked on nuclear licensed sites or within nuclear safety case environments, and understand the regulatory and human performance challenges involved.

The Role

You'll deliver Human Factors support to major submarine and site safety projects, working within a multidisciplinary engineering team. Your input will ensure compliance with nuclear safety regulations and the production of robust human performance assessments.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Lead Human Factors Integration as per the HFIP
  • Conduct HF assessments: task analysis, workload, HRA, HMI, spatial and layout reviews
  • Support development of the nuclear safety case through HF evidence
  • Ensure compliance with nuclear safety standards and HSE/ONR expectations
  • Provide expert HF guidance at technical reviews and stakeholder meetings

What We're Looking For

  • Nuclear experience is essential - e.g. work on licensed nuclear sites, with ONR/HSE, or on safety cases involving HF
  • Strong background in Human Factors Engineering in highly regulated industries (nuclear, defence, energy)
  • In-depth knowledge of HF assessments, safety justifications, and regulatory compliance
  • Degree in Human Factors or related subject
  • Familiarity with submarine or high-integrity system environments is advantageous

Why Apply?

  • Work on a high-profile, safety-critical nuclear defence programme
  • Join a respected team with a strong Human Factors integration culture
  • Flexible delivery model with mostly remote working
  • Influence the safety and effectiveness of future UK submarine operations
