Overview:

The Engineering Change Manager reports to the Head of IPT - Engineering Delivery.

The role will coordinate engineering activities addressing change from receipt, through selection of lead discipline, aligning supporting disciplines, assuring all aspects of format and content of impact assessment is met, to finally feeding in to the TBR where applicable. Change includes Customer initiated as well as that arising from T26 where deemed requiring particular attention for implementation on the CSC.

The Engineering Change Manager will work closely with the Chief Engineer's organisation to prepare the change for approval in the CSC Engineering Change Board, the sentencing of which sits with the Chief Engineer.

The role will further work closely with the CSC Commercial and Programme Management teams by feeding in progress and updates for internal reviews as well as Customer reporting purposes. The role will play an active part in the customer interface, supporting the engineering TA/Discipline leads as well as the Commercial/PM functions.

The Engineering Change Manager will have whole-ship design lifecycle experience and able to offer hands-on support and input, as well as aid qualifying deliverables from other engineering stakeholders in the process.

Key Deliverables:

  • Support Chief Engineer/TA on the T26/GCS Change Board
  • Feedback CSC changes driven by customer requirements to the GCS Change Board
  • Act as lead engineering coordinator of Engineering Change Proposals response driven by Customer or BAE Systems
  • Coordinate and oversee progress of engineering deliverables for engineering change activities
  • Provide hands-on input to the Change Management process, utilising own whole-ship design experience
  • Change Management process tracked and adhered to
  • Unambiguous data collection, assessment, and end-to end tracking (design and commercial)
  • Fully owned, understood, visible, and de-risked change tracking
  • Expedient response to design change proposals

Key Skills / Experience:

  • Extensive experience in warship design and engineering deliverables
  • Strong whole-ship product knowledge, ideally from T26
  • Experience in managing engineering change processes
  • Experience in conducting impact assessments from design change
  • Experience in estimating level of effort to implement changes
  • Able to deliver risk-based assessment of design change
  • Strong collaborating and influencing skills to build positive, effective and trusted relationships
  • Ability to lead, setting clear vision and strategy, particularly in an engineering environment.
  • Strategic mind-set, with strong influencing skills.
  • An accomplished communicator.
  • Risk management of technically complex programmes.
