A company that specialise in electro-mechanical systems for electric vehicles is seeking to recruit an Electrical Technician to work on a contract based in North London that is initially scheduled for 3 months.

The Role

This team member will inspect, modify and install low voltage and high current harnesses onto a commercial heavy-duty prototype electric vehicle and to sub-assemblies that go into the vehicle. All harness build and modification tasks must be carried out to a high standard to ensure that they are sealed, have durable electrical connections and are securely fastened and suitably rated for vehicle vibrations. Electrical harnesses will be built externally and supplied, but since these are the first units to be installed there is an expectation that some level of rework and modification will be required.

Tasks:

* Inspect purchased harnesses against a harness drawing and schematic.
* Install, route, and secure a harness on a vehicle or large automotive sub assembly.
* Markup drawings to convey differences or defects found.
* Modify purchased harnesses (if required).
o Add low voltage connectors, including identifying which crimp tool is needed.
o Cut down over length harness and re-crimp connectors.
o Move conduit tee points.

* Fault finding (if required) of:
o Poor or loose pin crimps or connections.
o Pin-to-pin checks for continuity using a multimeter.
o 12V and 24V relay and rocker switch circuits.
o CAN comms for terminations resistors.
o Chassis grounds.

Skills

Must Have:
* Good understanding of automotive electrical schematics and harness drawings.
* Prior experience working on vehicles with a high awareness of safety.
* Skilled tool operator, good with their hands and capable of working on complex assembly tasks.

Nice to have:

* Prior experience on low-volume or prototype projects inc. automotive.
* High Voltage training.
* Experience working with High Voltage automotive systems.
