Would you like to join an international defence company to support their clients by improving the capability, reliability and availability of their most critical assets? Due to continued investment, this global business is currently looking for a Technical Author to join their existing team in Bristol on a 6 month contact.

The Role

This an exciting opportunity for an experienced Technical Author to support a challenging programme which will deliver technical content for Electronic Warfare (EW) equipment, used by the Royal Navy that will shape the future of sea warfare.

As a Technical Author, your responsibilities will include the following but not limited to:

  • Produce both structured and unstructured Technical Publications
  • Originate both Maintenance and Operational Procedures for in-service equipment
  • Originate graphics and animations in compliance with international writing specifications and/or defence standards.
  • Research and analyse complex technical information to produce high quality technical documentation which will enable an end-user to operate and maintain the equipment correctly and safely
  • Support the holistic data generation process, that is: Technical Writing / Illustrating / Animation combined with process skills such as the development of the Data Management Requirements List (DMRL)

You

To succeed within the role of a Technical Author, you'll have experience in a similar position and have the following skills:

  • Hands on experience in supporting defence equipment with a good knowledge of mechanical/electrical/communication systems.
  • Must be able to read and interpret technical drawings (and 3D CAD Models) and Bills of Materials (BOM) to originate technical information.
  • Extensive knowledge in S1000D Issue 4.1, S2000M, STE100 (Simplified Technical English) and 5Cs (Technical Writing)

In addition, experience in the following areas would be highly regarded:

  • UK MOD Defence Standards including Def Stan 00-601 and Def Stan 00-600
  • Structured Content (XML / SGML)
  • Unstructured Content (MS Word)
  • Isometric / 2D Illustrations
  • Animation (3D)
  • CSDB / IETP Management using EAGLE Toolset
  • Adobe Acrobat Professional

Please note that due to security nature of this role, offers of employment will be dependent on obtaining security clearance. The vetting process is delivered by United Kingdom Security Vetting (UKSV) and will require candidates to provide proof of residency in the UK of 5 years or longer.
