Nicola Mannion

Director

My Role

After starting as a Resourcer, I've progressed through the ranks in various roles which has given me a great platform for managing all sales functions across the business in the role I hold today. The position gives me a diverse remit as it encompasses all parts of the sales life cycle from evolving client relationships, to ensuring delivery on projects of work, through the training and development of sales staff into new and existing markets. Throughout my career I’ve been lucky enough to work in various sectors, within new business and account management capacities. This has given me the experience to really drive the mission, vision and values of JAM which is the fundamental focus of my position.

Why Recruitment?

Before joining JAM, I achieved a BA Hons in Linguistics which gave me an insight to language and utilising the best way to communicate across various markets, countries and cultures. Although I didn't realise at the time, it gave me a fantastic base to drive my recruitment career as this industry is essentially all about people. I chose recruitment because you really get to understand the drivers and motivators of your clients, customers and staff and because you're dealing with people, it brings a fresh challenge everyday as no day is the same!

Why JAM?

JAM is unique because of the people. That along with the passion everyone brings is the reason I've been with JAM since 2004! The career development opportunities are fantastic and JAM is so innovative that we are constantly looking at new technology and markets to drive the next stages of the mission and vision. In addition to this, one of the main reasons I joined and stayed at JAM, is that no matter who you are or what you do, your voice will always be heard and any ideas or challenges are always taken on board by everyone including our CEO.

Something we don't know

I've played tennis at a high level and after playing at Wimbledon at 8 years old, I've travelled around the world playing in various Junior Tennis Championships.

Stella Grundy

Resource Team Leader

My Role

I currently work as Resource Team Leader within the Contracts team. I'm responsible for placing a range of contractors into the Aerospace and Defence industry.

My role involves mentoring Apprentices, recruiting Contractors, managing my current contract book and driving sales across the team. The main bulk of my day is sourcing candidates for any ongoing or urgent job requirements my clients have. I also keep in touch with all my contractors once they have started in their roles to ensure they're busy, happy and adhering to the clients requirements. I provide market information as and when my clients have any specific demands or changes to their projects. A big part of my role is to drive sales across the team, ensuring we are providing good quality candidates for our clients in the quickest time possible. We usually group together as a team twice a day to ensure we're all on track.

Why Recruitment?

I moved into a recruitment for career development. I worked as a sales person for a finance company which I was successful at but I wanted to develop my career and take my experience down a different route. I was told by family and friends that recruitment was a good route to go down where I could also make a lot of money.

Why JAM?

I had interviewed at a couple of recruitment companies and JAM really stood out above them all. The people, the office and the atmosphere all felt really inviting and positive and it still is to this day. I have progressed in my role gradually from Trainee to Team Leader over the course of the six and half years. In my time here, I have received invaluable support from my mentors and peers and also made lots of great friends.

Something we don't know

I used to be a spinning instructor!

This is the stuff for stella

James Turnpenny

Divisional Manager

My Role

Overall management of the contract team including customer delivery and strategy.

I started as a Trainee in the Contracts department over ten years ago and progressed through the ranks. I now have the responsibility of managing the Contracts division at JAM. My role allows me to play a big part in the growth of JAM's Contract division and also mentor and help develop our future EPIIC people and teams within JAM.

Why Recruitment?

To be honest I stumbled into recruitment when I moved to Manchester but soon became addicted to the pace, challenge and ability to be involved with some of the world's leading technology companies.

After ten years in the industry, each day still poses a new challenge and gives me the same satisfaction as day one.

Why JAM?

JAM has always given me the opportunity to develop, learn new skills and have financial security to enjoy my home life. The values of the business and office dynamic is fantastic which you feel every time you walk through the front door!

Something we don't know

I was once a leading supporting artist in North Yorkshire, including notable titles such as Harry Potter and Heartbeat!

Dan Kirkpatrick

Director

My Role

I joined JAM straight after finishing university - despite being a bit of a numbers geek (Economics BA and Statistics MSc) and always thinking I'd end up in something to do with Finance I'm still in a "people" job over 15 years later and still loving it as much as I did on my first day (cheesy I know but true). My first role at JAM was as a Trainee Consultant and since then I've held a number of different roles including Business Unit Manager for our Managed Accounts & RPO divisions and Client Services Director within our Business Development Team. I was promoted to a Group Director in 2018 and now have a wide ranging role across all aspects of the business… I still "keep my eye in" though and always have a couple of live jobs I'm recruiting for clients!

Why Recruitment?

Before joining JAM I completed a BA in Economics, specialising in Finance followed by an MSc in Social Research Methods and Statistics, both at the University of Manchester. Prior to this I attended Ampleforth College (an all-boys boarding school in the middle of North Yorkshire run by monks) and did A-Levels in Maths, Economics, Ancient Greek and Christian Theology. I loved all of my education years, but after my finishing my MSc I had no idea what I wanted to do so i'm one of the many who fell into recruitment... however, over a decade on I can confirm it's was a great fall as I still love it just as much as I did in 2003!

Why JAM?

Five things; namely no two days are ever the same, the great bunch of people here, the growth plans we have as a company, the career development opportunities and to see us hit the exciting goals we've set as a team and business!

Something we don't know

I once appeared on ITV's popular dating/cookery show, Dinner Date! I'm also the reigning JAM table football and pool champion and challenge anyone to defeat me!I once appeared on ITV's popular dating/cookery show, Dinner Date! I'm also the reigning JAM table football and pool champion and challenge anyone to defeat me!

Emma Bainbridge

Principal Account Manager

My Role

I'm a Principal Account Manager with responsibility for permanent technical recruitment. I work with a mixture of clients within the Aerospace and Defence sector on both a RPO and PSL basis.

My days are always exceptionally busy! I start with working through all new applications to external advertisements and then calling and qualifying candidates for new roles. This is usually a 20-30 minute conversation to go through their qualifications and experience and asses their suitability for relevant roles. I will then spend time speaking with my clients about new and upcoming roles and projects and speak to them about how we can support them with their Resource plans. My day will usually involve a lot of organising and preparing candidates for interviews and then the follow up side with both candidates and clients after.

I love the variety that my job offers me! Every day is different and each day presents its own unique challenges which I love overcoming!!

Why Recruitment?

I have worked in recruitment for 12 years (over 5 years at JAM) and was attracted into the industry by the potential to earn good money in a fast paced and exciting environment.

Why JAM?

I was attracted to JAM by the impressive incentives and rewards on offer and the culture of celebrating success. The 3pm Friday finish was also a real bonus!

Something we don't know

When I was five I was shortlisted to the final three to be the girl in the Milkybar advert!

Zaman Mahmud

Senior Recruitment Consultant

My Role

I made the move into technical recruitment in 2012, where I initially focused on Mechanical Engineering. However, due to the relationships I have built with my clients I now cover many facets of Engineering, including Electronics, Software and Electrical Engineering. In addition, I have developed a reputation for filling extremely specialised roles and headhunting assignments for executive positions.

Why Recruitment?

After 7 years in the Engineering field I was keen to take my career in a new direction and recruitment offered me the ideal opportunity. It offered me a heavily client facing role and an opportunity to build up a brand within a business that I can call my own. Fortunately, I am now able to put my Engineering experience to good practice, in appreciating my client's needs and discussing technical requirements with candidates.

Why JAM?

I was fortunate to receive offers from numerous engineering agencies, but JAM really stood out to me. The company's vision for the future, the intensive training available and industry partnerships made it an easy decision for me. I can honestly say that in the four years I have been here, I have never looked back.

Something we don't know

Not many people are aware but I have developed a keen interest in the world of investments. Whilst generally being risk averse in my nature, I have started to educate myself in seeking long term opportunities and venturing out of my comfort zone.

Alex Collins

Account Manager

My Role

I joined JAM as an apprentice three years ago. In my time here i have progressed through my apprenticeship and have been promoted to an Account Manager. My role gives me a chance to recruit for some of the largest defence and aerospace companies in the world. This role is exciting as each day is never the same.

Why Recruitment?

I left university early as I wanted to start earning. I chose recruitment because it was evident from the research that I did, that there are multiple opportunities for progression and various paths to take.

Why JAM?

Having an open mind in what I wanted to do when I left university, I interviewed at JAM and instantly thought it was the right fit for me. This was from the people I met to the support and course I was going to undertake and the clear career path that I could see myself falling into.

Something we don't know

I'm a huge sports fan and an avid follower of Manchester United. I once took on the challenge of eating 20 double cheeseburgers in under 10 minutes. However, I catastrophically failed, only managing 6! Maybe I'll go for single cheeseburgers next time...
